Al-Fred Was born in Haiti. There he received his early education and at the age of fourteen, the late Joseph Williams brought him to May Hill, Providenciales to be with his family. Life for him in May Hill was slightly different from the one he had experienced in Haiti, but in time he adjusted to his new way of living. In May Hill there were two ways to make a living; working the fields or fishing— he chose the latter, going out to sea catching fish and diving conch.
Al-Fred became so good at diving conch that he was dubbed as “Conch Diver”.
At the age of maturity he fell in love with Francis Ophelia Williams and on the 5th May 1920 on the Island of Grand Turk they were joined in marriage. That union produced Alice, Cynthia, Carol and Nathaniel.
