PROFILE OF EVA HALL

Eva Hall was the first child of Francis and Joseph Williams. She was born on September 5th, 1903 in the quiet settlement of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Island. Eva was educated in the public school system in Blue Hills, Providenciales which was the only school at the time. In those days getting married as a teenager was the accepted norm, she met and married Benjamin Nathaniel Hall and they were joined in holy matrimony at the youthful age of 15 in 1918. This union produced twelve (12) children whom she loved dearly. She was not only mother to these twelve but she was also mother to some of her grandchildren as well.

Like most women in those days, Eva worked in her field and did a little straw work in order to help support her family. The struggle was real back then so in order to make a better life for her family they migrated to Pine Ridge, Grand Bahamas in 1953. There she continued her straw work and became one of the pioneers in the straw industry. In 1962 she worked at Coopers and Lybrand until her retirement in 1980.

“Mar Eva” as she was affectionately called was highly respected in the community. She was an active member of Mount Olive No. 1 Commonwealth Mason of Eastern Star Lodge. She was a sympathetic and understanding individual; she was always willing to listen and give good advice to those she came in contact with. Eva loved the Lord and was an active member of Zion Baptist Church.

Eva traded time for eternity on August 2nd, 1991 at the age of 87.
